So, it has just been recommended that your child receive a psychoeducational evaluation. Now what?
This program will focus on helping parents through this process-from choosing a psychologist, to asking the right questions, to understanding the results. The overall goal of this program is to help parents become more sophisticated consumers of information about their children’s psychoeducational needs.

When children are diagnosed with a learning disability, families and caregivers are faced with a wide variety of unfamiliar and confusing terminology. This presentation is designed to explain many of the diagnostic terms applied to different types of learning disabilities such as verbal and non-verbal learning disabilities and dyslexia. The effects of a child’s learning disability in the classroom and strategies to facilitate learning will also be discussed.

How can a CHILD have an EXECUTIVE function disorder?
This program will provide an overview of executive functioning and how it is important in the development of middle and high school students. In layman’s terms, we will explain what happens when there are breakdowns in the executive functioning of adolescents at home and in school. We also will focus on tools for remediation to be used both at home and in the classroom.

Post-secondary options for young adults with learning disabilities.
The first step in planning the future of your child is to understand the options available. The workshop will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the different options available. It will also cover strategies to evaluate your child and to prepare your child in both the school environment and home.

Successfully navigate the admission process and develop strategies to market your child to the appropriate college of his or her choice. In addition, learn how to initiate and pursue an effective college search that includes interpreting and evaluating much of the information about colleges you obtain from the catalog, internet, campus visits, and friends and relatives.

Independent living 101: how to help your child develop independent living skills whether entering college or a first apartment.
This workshop will present both the skills necessary to function effectively on a college campus, whether living in a dormitory or off-campus apartment, and the strategies to develop these skills at home during the high school years. The material presented will be of value to the parents of young adults who are about to enter their first independent apartment living experience. Topics include, but not limited to: money management, personal safety, self advocacy, personal appearance and attire, and maintaining an apartment.
