Enhancing Social Skills Development
Fall 2007/Spring 2008
Developing appropriate social skills is an essential part of childhood. While most children develop these skills through daily interactions with peers, some children benefit from more direct support in order to strengthen their interpersonal relationships. The goal of the Churchill School and Center Social Skills program is to help children learn how to interact effectively with peers and to handle new social situations.
The Social Skills program, led by Churchill School psychologists and social workers, is a ten-week program open to boys and girls, ages 5 – 14. Children are placed in groups based on their age, interests and skill-based needs. For students ages 5 and 6, the maximum group size is four children; other groups consist of a maximum of six children. Each group session is 45 minutes.
